In January, 1996, I was driving on a dark, cloudy day.
I had this overwhelming urge to end my life. Discouragement had gripped
my soul. I had lost reason with reality. My life wasn't as bad
as my mind was telling me but I couldn't get things into perspective. I
am a Christian, this couldn't be happening to me. Looking up into
the dark sky I remember screaming, "God, are You there?"
In a flash, my mind traveled back twenty years before,
I remembered feeling the same way. The day was the same dark, cloudy
day. I had prayed the same prayer. Suddenly, a tiny rim of
sunshine peaked out only for a moment and encircled the clouds. Then
God spoke to my broken heart "The sun is shining for you even when
you cannot see." That's what faith is. Faith is believing
even when I cannot see. I started singing, "The Son of God is
shining, shining on me." For the rest of my trip I sang these
two lines and the darkness left. I never sang the song again.
The whole experience was filed in the back of my mind like a mother with
her child's school art treasures tucked away. Until this day.
But God didn't forget giving me this song. He
saved it because He knew the value and medicine in it's truth. He
gave it to me again at this most needed moment. I started singing
it again. The darkness in my mind lifted right then. Things
around me didn't change but I was different. I wrote this song down
that day.
1 Peter 2:9 says, "You are a chosen generation,
a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people: that you should show
forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His wonderful
light." Isaiah 9:2 says, "People living in darkness have
seen a great light. In the shadow of death, a new day has dawned overcoming
the night."
I've asked God to use me to minister in music to the
world. It's imperative for me to go through trials so I can effectively
know how those I'm singing to feel. The Bible says to expect adversity.
It also says in Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together
for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose."
That's me. I love God. I am called according to His purpose.
This song is His message of hope to those in darkness. "He is still
shinning through His son, Jesus Christ."
I'LL NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN
After Patty Smith's first Mission Trip with our church to Mexico she was
hooked. Her husband, Denny made plans to return with her and our group in
November.
Shortly before leaving, Patty found out her Mom scheduled surgery for that
same week. Since it was not a medical emergency, Patty asked her to wait
until she returned from Mexico so she could be with her. Her Mom refused
saying there was nothing to worry about. Patty left on the trip only to
return with Denny early because her Mom was in a coma and on life support.
Patty said, "On the way back all I could think was if she dies I'll never
see her again." She prayed her Mom would live until she could tell her one
more time how to be born again. They arrived in time to pray with her Mom
the day life support was discontinued. Her Mom continued on her own after
the oxygen was shut off. That night Patty climbed in bed with her Mom and
began to sing, "Jesus, Jesus, there's just something about that Name." All
through the night Patty sang. Her Mom left this world the next afternoon.
When I heard Patty's testimony about her last night with her Mom the words
"I'll never see you again if you die and don't let Jesus in" stirred in
my heart. Patty gave me permission to use her testimony in this song. I
wrote this for all those people we love and who have never let Jesus come
in. If it is you, I want to see you again after this life is o'er so please
let Jesus come in.
"I'LL NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN"
She climbed in bed with her Mom and began to sing,
"Jesus, Jesus there's just something about Your Name."
All through the night she held her while she prayed,
"Now is the time please say yes, Lord Jesus come in."
I'll never see you again, if you don't let Jesus come in.
He's knocking at your hearts door, please call on His name.
After this life is o'er, nothing else will matter any more.
I'll never see you again, if you don't let Jesus come in.
Don't wait too late my friend to invite Jesus in.
Life is so short don't be too busy for Him.
After your life is o'er, nothing else will matter any more.
I want to see you again. So please let Jesus come in.
I want to see you again, so please let Jesus come in.
He's knocking at your hearts door, please call on His name.
After this life is o'er, nothing else will matter any more.
I want to see you again, so please let Jesus come in.

IT WILL NOT ALWAYS BE SO
I was talking long distance one night to my dear, Mrs. Edna
Earle Allen. Crying about many hopeless things in my life, she finally got
a word in to tell me this story: Mr. Allen was in the hospital with cancer
and she was asking the Lord why he was suffering so long. While praying,
a tiny, Asian nurse came in and with broken English said, "Mama, twill not
always be so." Just as quickly, she was gone, but Mrs. Allen had her Word
from the Lord. "Mama, it will not always be so." I had my Word. I could
go on. I pray this song will minister to you as it does to me. Trials are
only allowed to bring us closer to Him. Trust that dear friend. Thanks Mama
for this song.
"IT WILL NOT ALWAYS BE SO"
It will not always be so can you believe?
Let this trial you are going through bring you closer to Me.
Be still My little one and know that I am in control
And this trial you are going through will not always be so.
Watching him suffer was more than she could bear.
She prayed, "Dear Jesus let me know You're here."
Then a nurse came in and whispered low,
"This trial you are going through will not always be so."
It will not always be so can you believe?
Let this trial you are going through bring you closer to Me.
Be still My little one and know that I am in control
And this trial you are going through will not always be so.
When troubles come in and my soul is cast down.
My heart is overwhelmed and there's no one around.
Deep within Jesus speaks and again I know
This trial I am going through will not always be so.
It will not always be so can you believe?
Let this trial you are going through bring you closer to Me.
Be still My little one and know that I am in control
And this trial you are going through will not always be so.

I KNOW GOD CAN
In 1995, my daughter, Ashley was diagnosed with diabetes.
I have had the privilege of seeing God heal people so it was nothing for
me to pray and expect Ashley to be healed. But she wasn't. I was so disappointed.
Was it because I didn't have enough faith?
I was studying the book of Daniel during this time. The story
of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego began to encourage me. In Daniel 3, King
Nebuchadnezzar told them they had to bow down to a statue he had made of
gold. He said if they didn't he would throw them into a fiery furnace and
who is that God that will deliver them out of his hands? They refused saying,
"If it be so, our God, whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning
fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not,
let it be known we will not serve your god, nor worship the golden image
which you set up.
Although it seemed God was not answering my prayer for Ashley
I was able to say with these three young men, "I know God can. I've seen
His mighty hand. I hope He will, but even if He doesn't I will serve Him
still." The next Sunday in church my pastor, Rev. James Leake preached on
this same scripture. His daughter has had diabetes over 20 years. He didn't
give up and stop praying for folks to be healed just because God didn't
heal his daughter yet. He knew God could. He hoped He would but even if
He doesn't He chose to serve Him still.
The Sunday afternoon before I sang this song for the first
time, I was at my piano finishing the words. The day was dark and cloudy.
I usually use a felt tip pen so the ink won't run out from writing on a
slant. This day I had a clear, red Bic pen. When I the words sounded the
way I wanted, I prayed, "Lord, do You like this song?" I don't know if I
really expected an answer but suddenly I got one.
On a cloudy day the Creator of the Universe took the time
to answer my little prayer with a rainbow. A rainbow the size of a quarter
landed on my right hand. Such an awesome answer to me because I know only
He can send the sun from behind the clouds just in time to make it land
on someone's hand whose holding a clear Bic pen and make a rainbow. It lasted
only a moment and the sun was gone. It was enough.
Is there something you need to give up today and say, "I know
God can, I hope He will but if He doesn't I will serve Him still.
"I KNOW GOD CAN"
I know God can. I've seen His mighty hand.
I hope He will, but even if He doesn't I will serve Him still.
God is able to deliver me again and again.
Whatever I ask I know our God can do.
The king told Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
Bow down to me or into the furnace you'll go.
They said, "Oh king, we cannot bow to you.
So it really doesn't matter what you plan to do.
Our God is able to deliver us from your hand
But even if He doesn't we're gonna stand.
And we know the story. God got all the glory as the king proclaimed,
"Let God be exalted. He's the King of all Kings, throughout my land."
We know God can. We've seen His mighty hand.
We hope He will, but even if He doesn't we'll serve Him still.
God is able to deliver us again and again.
Whatever we ask we know our God can do.
Now faith is the substance of what I believe.
The evidence of things I cannot see
It's what I put my hope in as I stand before each enemy.
I know Jesus can do above all that I ask exceeding abundantly.
I know God can. I've seen His mighty hand.
I hope He will, but even if He doesn't I will serve Him still.
God is able to deliver me again and again.
Whatever I ask I know our God can do.
